SAFEGUARDING POLICY.

1. Policy Statement

Let’s Go Dance Workshops is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students, staff, and visitors. We recognize our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults who attend our school.

We believe that:

  • The welfare of the child is paramount.

  • All children and young people have the right to protection from harm, abuse, and exploitation.

  • All staff, volunteers, and associates share responsibility for safeguarding.

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors, students, and parents involved with Let’s Go Dance Workshops.

2. Legal Framework

This policy has been developed in line with:

  • Children Act 1989 & 2004

  • Working Together to Safeguard Children (latest statutory guidance)

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (where relevant)

  • Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) guidance

  • Data Protection Act & GDPR

3. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Christina Cameron

    • Main point of contact for safeguarding concerns.

    • Ensures staff are trained and policies are followed.

  • All Staff and Volunteers:

    • Must report concerns immediately to the DSL.

    • Must complete safeguarding training and refreshers.

4. Code of Conduct

Staff and volunteers must:

  • Treat all students with respect and dignity.

  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times.

  • Never use physical punishment or inappropriate language.

  • Avoid being alone with a child where possible (use open spaces/studios).

  • Ensure communication with students and parents is professional.

5. Safer Recruitment

We are committed to safe recruitment by:

  • Requiring references and background checks.

  • Carrying out DBS checks where legally required.

  • Providing induction and safeguarding training for all new staff.

6. Safeguarding Procedures

  • Recognising Concerns: Signs of abuse may include unexplained injuries, changes in behaviour, neglect, or disclosures from a child.

  • Reporting Concerns:

    • Concerns must be reported immediately to the DSL.

    • The DSL will record concerns, assess risk, and decide on next steps, including referral to social services or local safeguarding agencies.

  • Confidentiality: Information will only be shared with those who need to know, in line with data protection and safeguarding best practice.

7. Health, Safety & Online Safety

  • Studios and venues will be risk assessed regularly.

  • First aid kits will be available and staff trained.

  • Parents/guardians must provide emergency contact and medical information.

  • Online classes (if provided) must follow safeguarding best practice: secure platforms, parental presence encouraged, no one-to-one unsupervised sessions unless risk-assessed.

8. Whistleblowing

All staff and volunteers are encouraged to raise safeguarding concerns without fear of reprisal. Concerns about the DSL should be reported directly to the local safeguarding authority or police if necessary.

9. Training

  • All staff and volunteers will receive safeguarding training appropriate to their role.

  • DSL will undertake advanced safeguarding training and refresh every two years.

  • Policy will be reviewed annually and updated as needed.
